Fort Bragg Weekend Picks: November 16

It is a weekend of Wizardry here in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  This weekend, you and your family could explore a Magical World of Wizardry Festival downtown, have a magical evening at a Marksmen hockey game, run a 5k or attend a wine tasting to support our community, learn how to use essential oils, or take the kiddos to a fun science class.  There is never a dull moment in the Sandhills!

Friday and Saturday November 16th & 17th

The Magical World of Wizardry

This weekend in Downtown Fayetteville, the Magical World of Wizardry will be a MAGICAL great time for the whole family. From 5pm to 9pm on Friday and 11am to 6pm on Saturday, several businesses and museums around town will be participating in the Harry Potter festivities. New events will be added daily, so check the link below for the full Facebook event page.

Begin your adventures at the Fayetteville Area Transportation Museum. You can enjoy the sorting ceremony, costume contest, horcrux hunt, butterbeer contest, live readings, and more! You will want to study up for the Harry Potter Trivia and available classes! Dress up for the fun times and be prepared for photo ops with some of your favorite characters.

The Fayetteville Marksmen are even getting in on the fun with a themed hockey night this Saturday.

The event is not associated with J.K. Rowling or Warner Bros. Studios.

Friday November 16th

Aromatic Use of Essential Oils

Prima Elements Holistic Wellness Center is hosting an essential oils class that focuses on various aromatic uses of oils in diffusers, inhalers and steam pots. You will be able to make blends during class to take home!

If you have never used oils before, they can enhance your life in many areas, to include immune support, relaxation and sleep, stress relief, emotional balance, skin care, respiratory health, green cleaning, and even muscle tension and pain.

All supplies are included in the class! Snacks and drinks will be provided. The event space is kid friendly and participants are encouraged to bring friends and family.

Saturday November 17th

3rd Annual GCD Dream Run

According to their website, “the GCD Dream Run is hosted and run by two non-profits in Fayetteville, NC, Grace College of Divinity and the Fayetteville Dream Center.” The 5k is a fundraiser to raise funds and awareness for the needs of the community. The Dream Center specifically focuses on “feeding the hungry and rescuing those who have been sex trafficked” and more.

Registration and packet pick-up is from 7am until 7:45am. The race begins at 8am and a presentation of prizes will follow at 9am. The run begins at Festival Park and follows a certified 5k route. Follow the link below for more information on prizes, donating, and sponsoring the event.

Super Science Saturday

This reoccurring event happens every third Saturday of the month at the Fascinate-U children’s museum in downtown! Bring your kiddos out for a fun, fascinating hands-on science lesson.

The theme for this Super Science Saturday will be chemistry! The kids will be able to test water, make a mini-rocket and learn about color chemistry by using markers and filter paper.

Admission is $4 for children and $3 for adults. The museum also has a “Come See the Trains” event from 12pm to 4pm with the Cape Fear Railroaders Association. At this event, the association will showcase their trains on the museum’s third floor. The exhibit is free!

Cost: FREE with paid admission or for museum membership holders

Friendship Community Garden—Wine & Bites Fundraiser

Leclaire’s General Store’s Wine and Bites night has turned fundraiser this Saturday! This special night is in partnership with the Friendship Community Garden, a place to provide sustainable food options and healthy relationships within the Fayetteville community.

Leclaire’s will be pairing some of their newest wines with a special menu from Fowler’s Southern Gourmet. $20 from each ticket will go straight to the Friendship Community Garden.
